ECG completes over Gh¢2.7million 11kV feeder line in Greater Kumasi

The Ashanti West Region of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has completed the construction of a new 11 kilovolt (kV) feeder worth Gh¢2,762,941.09 in Greater Kumasi.

The distribution line, from the Afari Substation to Nkawie, was constructed in six months,

It comprised of 92 new 11-meter poles, three new 12-meter poles and 11kV headgear.

Additionally, new conductors, 11kV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) load isolators and other materials were inculcated into the construction of the distribution line.

Mr. George Amoah, the General Manager of ECG’s Ashanti West Region, said the project was to improve power supply in some communities in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality.

Also, the newly constructed distribution line aims to reduce system loss, improve voltage profile, and promote operational efficiency and flexibility at the Nkawie enclave.

Mr. Amoah mentioned that the distribution line would supply power to customers in Bedabour, Gyankobaa, Mpasatia, Kwame Dwaah, Nkawie, Toase, Wioso and its environs.

He noted that before the project, customers residing in and around the Nkawie enclave depended on the Agogo Primary Substation for power supply.

However, the enclave occasionally experienced low voltage as the distribution line from Atwima Agogo covered a longer distance, almost reaching its full capacity.

According to the Regional Manager, ECG was aware of the rising need for electricity in the Nkawie enclave due to the massive infrastructural development springing up in the area.

“We are aware of the significant load growth towards the Nkawie enclave due to the massive infrastructure springing up every day,” he stated.

There was, therefore, an urgent need to construct a new distribution line to provide quality, reliable and safe electricity services to customers and to promote socio-economic growth and development in the area.

Mr. Amoah said the existing distribution lines at Agogo, Ntrensere and Sepaase would also be relieved as future demands for electricity would also be catered for.

He disclosed that similar construction projects were ongoing in the Ashanti West Region to improve the power supply.

“We are also constructing another distribution line from the Afari Substation to Sepaase to improve power supply to customers around Afari, Nerebehi and Ntrensere enclaves,” he said.
