ECG rolls out real-time data system to boost power reliability in Ashanti Region

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has launched a new digital platform to collect real-time data from five major power stations in the Ashanti Region, aimed at improving electricity supply and operational efficiency.

The new system is being deployed at the Anwomaso, Ridge, Konongo, Obuasi, and Dunkwa Bulk Supply Points.

With the aid of specialised computers, each station now sends live hourly updates directly to ECG’s System Controller. This advancement allows technicians to detect faults swiftly, analyse data more effectively, and respond promptly to fluctuations in electricity demand.

“This is a big change from our old manual system, which could be slow and sometimes had errors,” said Ing. Andrews Owusu Peprah, Operations Manager for Ashanti Sub-Transmission.
“Now we can work faster and more accurately.”

The upgrade replaces the previous manual system, which was prone to human errors, delays, and data inconsistencies. By automating data collection, ECG aims to reduce operational risks and enhance the accuracy and reliability of insights gathered from the field.

General Manager for Ashanti Sub-Transmission, Ing. Peter Kofi Fletcher, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to better service delivery.

“This fits into ECG’s larger plan of providing reliable, stable, and customer-friendly power across the country,” he said.

The new platform is expected to serve as a model for future digitisation efforts in other regions as ECG moves toward a more responsive and technology-driven energy management system.
