The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu has issued a directive for swift investigations into a fire outbreak that occurred during late hours of Sunday, March 16, 2025 at the Labone Senior High School in Accra.

Sources explain that the fierce fire gutted three dormitory blocks in the school, resulting in the damage of school property and student belongings.

No casualties have been recorded so far as the Ghana National Fire Service rushed in to quench the fire. The GNFS are still investigating the possible cause of the fire.

The minister during his visit to the school on Monday, March 17 2025, morning expressed his sympathy with affected students and assured them to be expectant of the government’s swift response. “We know how distressing that can be for you. I have asked a team to move in quickly, make an assessment and the government will do what is needed and appropriate. So be assured that in a matter of days, some intervention will come to see the refitting of the girls’ dormitory.”

He also shared plans of possible deliberations between him and the school authorities to construct a new dormitory block.
