The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has inaugurated the reconstituted Governing Council of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

He charged the newly constituted council to shift focus from an overemphasis on the humanities and instead prioritise Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education, as well as artificial intelligence.

He emphasised that these areas represent the foundation for Ghana’s development.

“So I’m compelled, Prof Vice-Chancellor, with the indulgence of the Chair of Council, Nana, to call for a reduction in the expansion of humanities programmes. Stay focused on science, mathematics, and engineering. That is the future. By shaping Ghana’s human capital, you shape the country’s future.

Therefore, with the support of the Chairman, you must scale down your appetite for humanities to help correct the mismatch between education and employability, and to produce graduates who are ready for the job market.”
