Edward Ekow Obeng Kenzo has officially assumed office as the Acting Chief Executive of the Volta River Authority (VRA), taking over from Emmanuel Antwi Darkwa in a brief handover ceremony today.

With 24 years of experience in the power sector, Obeng Kenzo brings a wealth of expertise to his new role.

Before this appointment, he served as the Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Engineering and Operations, where he was responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership to various departments within the organisation.

A mechanical engineer by training, he holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration (MPA) and a Bachelor of Science (BSc Hons) in Mechanical Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

He is also a member of the Ghana Institution of Engineering.

Over the years, Mr Obeng Kenzo has played key roles in VRA’s operations, including serving as the Director of Thermal Generation, Plant Manager of the Tema Thermal Power Complex (TTPC), Operations Manager at TTPC, and Project Manager for the Tema Thermal 2 Power Project, which saw the deployment of a 49.5MW Siemens Emergency Power Plant.

As Acting CEO, he is expected to drive innovation and improve operational efficiencies across critical departments such as Hydro Generation, Engineering Services, Environment & Sustainable Development, Thermal Generation, Strategic Projects, and Renewable Energy.

His leadership will be instrumental in ensuring VRA remains a market leader in Ghana’s energy sector.

Mr Obeng Kenzo’s appointment signals continuity and a focus on strategic growth within VRA as the organization navigates the evolving energy landscape.
