Team Ghana has departed for Egypt to compete in the 16th Africa Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships, scheduled to begin on April 30.
The team includes Johnson Gyarko, Oduma Agyei, Yemen Bozuma Cornie, Jacob Kaleem, Michael Crabbe-Mann, Jada Yankey, Tamba Akin Boamah, and Rihana Yankey, with head coach Kenneth Ankrah leading the delegation.
The swimmers will compete across various disciplines, including breaststroke, backstroke, freestyle, butterfly, and medley events.
“The hard work they’ve put in during training will be evident at the competition. We have assembled the crème de la crème of swimming talent in Ghana to represent the nation,” coach Kenneth Ankrah said.
“Expectations are high because we are taking our very best.”
Team captain Oduma Agyei, who played a key role in Ghana’s impressive 28-medal haul at the recent Africa Aquatics Zone II Junior and Senior Championships in Accra, shared his optimism ahead of the tournament.
“Our goal is simple: to do our best, set new personal records, and put on an outstanding performance,” he said.
The four-day continental competition offers Ghana’s young swimmers a valuable platform to boost their performance ahead of the World Championships scheduled for September.
