The Ejura Divisional Council in the Ashanti Region, led by Ejurahene Barimah Osei Hwedie II, has donated 100,000 Cedis to Assembly members and Community Watch Dog teams in the area to help fight illicit drug dealings and stem up security.

The watchdog team has for some time now worked hand in hand with security agencies in the area, particularly the police, ensuring the safety of persons and properties in Ejura and its environs, and this support comes at a time when the watchdog teams are struggling financially.

The money was officially handed over to the team on Friday, March 14, 2025, through the Ejura Divisional Police Commander, Superintendent David Ashong.

Addressing the Assembly Members and security heads at his palace, Barimah Osei Hwedie II said the donation was in response to a request by the Assembly Members to the traditional council for support.

He noted that the money is to help the Assembly Members, in consultation with the police, train and procure security equipment for the watchdog teams in eight Electoral Areas.

Support from Other Opinion Leaders

Barimah Osei Hwedie II revealed that cash of 80,000 cedis was from the coffers of the traditional council, while two businessmen in the area, Joseph Acquah Amankra, the Chief Executive Officer for Belove Knowledge Links and a Former MP for the Area, Hon Mohamed Pangabu added 10,000 cedis each making it 100,000 for the team.

He thanked his Council of Elders for the support and called on all businesses in the area to support this agenda.

Police Commander’s Gratitude

Receiving the donation on behalf of the Watch Dog Committee, the Divisional Police Commander for Ejura, Supo David Ashong, commended the traditional council for their immense contribution to security.

He said the assistance would go a long way in helping the police and the watchdog committee work effectively to protect lives and properties.

He pledged that the police would follow up to ensure the money is used for its intended purpose.
