Ejura Traditional Council leads efforts to strengthen synergy between community and security agencies

The Ejura Traditional Council in the Ashanti Region is enhancing collaboration between assembly members and security agencies to address recurring security threats.

About a month ago, some youth in the area attacked and set fire to a police station in protest over the alleged death of a resident in police custody.

During a recent meeting, it was resolved that community security volunteer groups will assist the police by providing relevant information to support law enforcement efforts at the community level.

The engagement, held at the request of assembly members and community security volunteer groups, aimed to improve the early detection of security threats.

The Ejura Divisional Police Command is confident that timely information can play a crucial role in crime prevention.

Crime Officer ASP Daniel Acheampong assured that the Ghana Police Service will provide training to volunteer groups, equipping them to operate within the law. He emphasized that volunteers will work under police supervision to ensure compliance with regulations.

ASP Acheampong reaffirmed the police’s commitment to protecting citizens and cautioned against any form of illegality.

Ejurahene, Barimah Osei Hwedie II, who chaired the meeting, expressed optimism that strengthened collaboration between the community and security agencies would lead to improved security in the municipality.

He also cautioned assembly members against abusing their authority in the process.

“You as leaders will have to be an example to all the young people. You must let them know that the laws of the land is supreme and must be obeyed,” Barimah Osei Hwedie said.

He commended the assembly members for their efforts in collaborating with security agencies to safeguard lives and property.

The traditional authority pledged its support to the initiative, urging both the Ghana Police Service and volunteer groups to work together for peace to instill law and order.
