The initiative included the distribution of care packages and financial grants to the elderly
In a heartwarming gesture aimed at supporting the elderly, Ghanaian civil engineering and road construction firm, Oswal Investments Limited, on Saturday, April 19, 2025, organised a meaningful initiative that gave back to over 500 senior citizens in the Osu community.
The event, held at the St. Barnabas Anglican Church in Osu, formed part of the company’s annual Easter outreach program, designed to provide essential resources and support to older citizens, particularly those in vulnerable situations.
Speaking at the event on Saturday, Group Chairman of Oswal Investments Limited, Mr. Humphrey Awuletey-Williams, emphasised the company’s deep-rooted commitment to social impact and uplifting marginalised groups.
“We recognise the invaluable contributions of our elderly population, and this is our way of showing appreciation. Through this outreach, we aim to offer not only material support but also emotional encouragement. No one should feel forgotten, especially those who laid the foundation we are all building on today,” he noted.
The initiative included the distribution of care packages and financial grants to elderly individuals, especially those living alone or without reliable support systems.
The event also brought in professionals to educate the beneficiaries on nutrition, mental health and the importance of taking their prescribed medications.
Dr. Mrs. Shirley-Ann Awuletey-Williams led volunteers from the community and church groups to ensure smooth co-ordination.
Mr. Awuletey Williams who is also a well-known philanthropist, reaffirmed the company’s ongoing commitment to serving communities throughout Ghana.
“We are proud to continue this tradition of giving. The elderly hold a special place in our society, and it is our duty to ensure they feel seen, valued, and cared for” he told the media.
As part of the day’s activities, Mr. Awuletey-Williams also pledged to support 100 elderly individuals within the St. Barnabas Anglican Church in Osu with health screening.
Community members and local leaders commended the initiative, describing it as both timely and compassionate, especially amidst growing concerns over elderly welfare in urban and peri-urban areas.
One of the beneficiaries, Madam Elizabeth Ankrah, aged 78, shared her gratitude saying, “In these times, it’s rare to be remembered. Today, I feel loved. I feel human.”
The company hinted at more partnerships and expanded outreach programs in the months ahead, as it seeks to deepen its community engagement and broaden the impact of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives across the Greater Accra region.
Meanwhile on Easter Sunday, Group Chairman of Oswal Investments Limited, Mr. Humphrey Awuletey-Williams extended his support to the St Barnabas Anglican Church in Osu through an undisclosed cash donation, reaffirming his longstanding commitment to community development and faith-based initiatives.
While the exact amount remains confidential, church representatives expressed deep gratitude for the gesture, noting that the contribution will go a long way in supporting ongoing renovation works and outreach programs.
