The Empowered Woman Global Foundation has launched the My Beautiful Teenage Life Initiative in collaboration with the Ablekuma North Municipal Education Directorate.

This groundbreaking initiative, spearheaded by the foundation’s Founder and Executive Lead, Bernice Kumadey, aims to educate, inspire, and empower young girls to make informed decisions about their futures while also addressing the challenges of teenage pregnancy and substance abuse among adolescents.

The initiative started with a highly successful program at Darkuman 1 Junior High School, marking the beginning of what promises to be a transformative journey for many young lives in the municipality. Under the leadership of Perry E. Ofori, Director of Education for Ablekuma North, and with the support of key stakeholders such as Mr. Mahmood Bill, Municipal CHEP Coordinator, Madam Dorcas Yeboah, Girls Education Officer, and Madam Grace Ofori, the Headmistress of Darkuman 1 Junior High School. The initiative is set to reach most if not all, sthe chools in the municipality.

A Vision to Reduce Teenage Pregnancy

The My Beautiful Teenage Life Initiative aims to reduce teenage pregnancy in Ghana by equipping students with the knowledge, values, and confidence needed to make informed life decisions. Through school outreach programs, mentorship sessions, and educational campaigns, girls and boys are guided on the importance of prioritizing their education and resisting negative peer influences.

While the program’s main focus is empowering young girls, it also extends mentorship and education to boys, addressing critical issues such as substance abuse and responsible decision-making. This holistic approach ensures that both girls and boys are equipped to support each other in making positive life choices.

A Passion for the Girl Child

Bernice Kumadey, the visionary behind the initiative, has long been a passionate advocate for the education and empowerment of the girl child. Over the years, she has dedicated her time, resources, and energy to mentoring and guiding young teenagers, helping them navigate the challenges of adolescence, and equipping them with the tools to build brighter futures. Her unwavering commitment to this cause stems from a deep belief that educating and empowering girls is not just a moral imperative but also an avenue for societal transformation.

“The girl child holds the key to the future of our nation,” says Kumadey. “When we invest in their education and well-being, we are not just changing individual lives; we are transforming communities and, ultimately, our country. The My Beautiful Teenage Life Initiative is my way of ensuring that every girl has the opportunity to dream big, stay focused, and achieve her full potential.”

Addressing Teenage Pregnancy and Substance Abuse

During the program at Darkuman 1 Junior High School, both girls and boys were educated on critical issues such as the dangers of substance abuse and the importance of staying focused on their education. The message was clear: education is the springboard to success, and every child, regardless of gender, has the potential to achieve greatness if they take their studies seriously.

The initiative also provided practical support to the students, including the distribution of stationery, which is essential for the school. However, the vision extends far beyond this initial effort. The goal is to secure sponsorships that will enable the initiative to reach more schools, provide scholarships for girls, and offer additional educational materials.

A Call for Sponsorship and Collaboration

To ensure the success and sustainability of the My Beautiful Teenage Life Initiative, The Empowered Woman Global Foundation is calling on individuals, organizations, and corporate entities to join hands in this noble cause. Sponsorships in the form of stationery, sanitary pads, groceries, and financial contributions will go a long way in helping the initiative achieve its objectives. These resources will not only support the ongoing school tours but also provide scholarships to deserving girls, further encouraging girl-child education in Ghana.

“We cannot do this alone,” Kumadey emphasizes. “We need the support of everyone who shares our vision of a Ghana where every girl has the opportunity to thrive. Together, we can hold the education of the girl child high and empower them to make better decisions for themselves and their futures.”

Looking Ahead

The My Beautiful Teenage Life Initiative is more than just a program; it is a movement aimed at creating a society where teenage pregnancy is no longer a barrier to the dreams and aspirations of young girls. By educating, empowering, and inspiring the next generation, the initiative seeks to make a lasting impact on the lives of countless young people and, by extension, the nation as a whole.

As the initiative continues to gain momentum, the hope is that it will become a household name in Ghana, synonymous with the empowerment of the girl child and the fight against teenage pregnancy. With the support of sponsors and partners, this vision is well within reach.
