The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Mr. John Abdulai Jinapor, has charged the newly inaugurated National Petroleum Authority (NPA) Board to crack down on illegal fuel trade and ensure Ghanaians get quality petroleum products at fair prices.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony in Accra, he emphasised the need for tighter controls in the downstream petroleum sector to curb smuggling, tax evasion, and adulteration.
“The NPA must enforce regulations without fear or favour. We cannot allow a few bad actors to undermine the sector through illegal activities that deprive the state of revenue and compromise product quality,” he said.
He urged the Board to prioritize transparency, fair competition, and consumer protection while working closely with industry players.
The Minister disclosed that a committee set up to review the petroleum downstream sector has submitted its report, outlining reforms to improve efficiency and sustainability.
“We will carefully study these recommendations and implement the necessary changes to strengthen the sector,” he said.
On his part, the Board Chairman, Alhaji Huudu Yahya Iddrisu, assured the Minister of their commitment to delivering results.
“We recognize the responsibility placed on us and will work diligently to ensure a well-regulated and competitive petroleum market,” he said.
Other members include Mr. Elom L. Lardi Glawu, Dr. Clement Osei-Amodo, Mr. Godwin Tameklo (CEO of NPA), Sanja Anita Morrison Esq., Linda N. Ogebdei Quao Esq., and Philis Naa Koryoo Okuror.
