A former Member of Parliament for Ablekuma Central on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ebenezer Gilbert Nii Narh Nartey, has waded into the controversy surrounding the cash gift from GoldBoD Acting CEO Sammy Gyamfi to self-styled evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.
The National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) was captured in a viral video handing an undisclosed amount of cash to the former fetish priestess—an act that has sparked public outrage and drawn criticism, including from within the NDC.
The uproar forced Sammy Gyamfi to issue an unqualified apology on Sunday, May 11.
But speaking on Accra-based JoyPrime on Monday, May 12, Nii Narh Nartey called for Sammy Gyamfi’s immediate dismissal, arguing that his continued stay in office reflects poorly on President John Dramani Mahama’s leadership.
“If Sammy Gyamfi remains in office tomorrow, then I don’t think he deserves to be the president, because he doesn’t go by his word,” the former MP fumed.
“Yesterday, an NDC woman came to me asking for help. Unfortunately, I was calling someone to get me Sammy Gyamfi’s number because they are sharing dollars now. Today, NDC, five months in government, you have money and you’re sharing dollars—not cedis,” he added.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has summoned the GoldBoD CEO over the incident, as pressure mounts from anti-corruption groups for sanctions to be imposed.
