Fake doctor arrested at Kasoa for defrauding victims, luring women online

The police have arrested a man for impersonating a medical doctor and defrauding victims by promising international travel opportunities.

The suspect, Fredrick Papa Kow-Assifuah, was apprehended on Thursday, June 6, 2025, at Kasoa Crispo City in the Central Region during an intelligence-led operation by the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) Headquarters.

This update was shared in a series of posts on social media by the Ghana Police Service on Monday June 9, 2025.

“The Ghana Police Service, through an intelligence-led operation, has arrested a man for impersonating a medical doctor and defrauding unsuspecting victims under the pretext of securing international travel opportunities for them,” it stated.

According to the police, at the time of the arrest, the suspect was dressed like a medical doctor.

“Kow-Assifuah was dressed in a white lab coat with a stethoscope around his neck and was about to meet a potential victim he had contacted online. A search of his premises led to the retrieval of several medical items, the Police Service 2 stethoscopes, 3 intravenous (IV) drips, 5 syringes, 2 sample bottles, 1 roll of plaster, 6 bottles of vaccines, a 1 Ghanaian passport, and cash amounting to GH¢8,500.00,” it noted.

The police further disclosed that during interrogation, he admitted to impersonating a medical doctor and confessed using his fake identity to lure women online.

“He also confessed to using his fake identity to engage women online, initiating intimate relationships and convincing them to part with money for fake travel arrangements to Europe,” it stated.

It also noted that the suspect remains in custody, assisting the police in investigations.

“The suspect is currently in custody, assisting investigation and will be put before court,” it added.

•Six (6) bottles of vaccines

•One (1) Ghanaian passport

•Cash amounting to GH¢8,500.00

During interrogation, the suspect admitted to impersonating a doctor at the United Brain Hospital at Mallam, a suburb of Accra.

A search conducted at the premises led to the retrieval of a number of medical items in his possession, including:

•Two (2) stethoscopes

•Three (3) intravenous (IV) drips

•Five (5) syringes

•Two (2) sample bottles

•One (1) roll of plaster

He also confessed to using his fake identity to engage women online, initiating intimate relationships and convincing them to part with money for fake travel arrangements to Europe.

The suspect is currently in custody, assisting investigation and will be put before court.
