Abusuapanin Moses Amponsah speaking
The head (Abusuapanin) of the Asakyire family in Abofuor, Abusuapanin Moses Amponsah, has issued a stark warning about escalating tensions over a disputed chieftaincy issue.
He claims that certain individuals are attempting to illegally install a chief without his knowledge or consent, potentially sparking violence in the area.
Abusuapanin Amponsah alleges that these individuals, motivated by greed, are bypassing traditional customs and seeking to install non-royals as chief of Abofuor.
He emphasised that, as the rightful family head, he should be an integral part of any installation process.
According to Abusuapanin Amponsah, the root of the problem lies in an unresolved matter involving the “Otumfuo’s great oath,” which Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II had previously directed the current Ofinso Paramount chief to settle.
“Until that is settled,” Abusuapanin Amponsah stated, “no one can install a chief for Abofuor.”
He asserts that the Ofinsohene failed to resolve the case as instructed, leaving the matter unresolved.
“Now, tensions are beginning to generate here because some faceless individuals are pushing some strangers to be installed as chiefs without my knowledge,” he declared.
He argues that these actions defy the Otumfuo’s authority and disrespect his position as Abusuapanin.
Marking his 47th year as the family head, Abusuapanin Moses Amponsah stated that two chiefs of Abofuor have served under his leadership.
He explained that following the passing of the current chief, preparations were underway to install a new one through the proper procedures when the dispute arose.
Subsequently, Otumfuo intervened, calling for a complete resolution of the issue before proceeding with the installation.
Abusuapanin Moses Amponsah is issuing a strong warning to those involved in the illegal installation to cease their “abuse of traditions.”
He urged the entire community not to support these individuals, as he is not party to their “disrespectful illegalities.”
He is also pleading with the Asantehene to intervene immediately and hold these individuals accountable, warning that their actions could be a recipe for disaster.
