Fix the looming dumsor; Ghana can’t go back to your old days — Ahiagbah to Mahama

The National Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has urged President John Dramani Mahama not to plunge the country back into the days of dumsor experienced during his previous term.

In a post on social media on Thursday, May 15, Ahiagbah called on the President to urgently address the looming power crisis to save Ghanaians from renewed suffering.

“Notices like this make me nostalgic about the dumsor days under H.E. John Dramani Mahama. Please fix the problem, Mr. President,” he wrote.

His comment follows a notice from the Minister of Energy, John Jinapor, who warned of a possible nationwide power crisis.

The minister revealed that Ghana has less than three days’ worth of liquid fuel to power its electricity-generating plants.

Speaking before the Parliamentary Committee on Energy on Thursday, Mr Jinapor said the ministry is working with the Ministry of Finance to raise funds to pay for already ordered fuel.

“My headache is how to get the next parcel of liquid fuel. The fuel we have will take us 2.6 days,” he told the committee.

“We have placed an order for fuel, but it has to be paid. We’re working with the Ministry of Finance to pay, but the truth is that the Ministry also has its limits. We will be going to Cabinet to discuss how we can improve the sector,” he added.
