Former DCE leaves official residence empty, rotten

District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ajumako Enyan Essiam in the Central Region, Mr Andrews Kojo Duodu, has expressed deep disappointment over the deplorable state of the official DCE residence, which he says has been left in ruins by his predecessor.

According to Mr Duodu, almost everything in the bungalow has either gone missing or been left damaged beyond use.

A recent inspection of the residence revealed that most of the property, including essential items like chairs, mattresses, fridges, and air conditioners, are either broken, rotten, or completely absent.

Curtains have been removed, and the rooms — including the bedrooms, hall, and kitchen — are in an uninhabitable state.

“It is shocking and disappointing to witness the level of neglect. The building is a ticking time bomb and could collapse at any time if not renovated immediately,” Mr. Duodu told journalist Samuel Nana Tawiah in an interview.

Due to the poor condition of the facility, the DCE says he cannot risk staying in the official residence and prefers commuting from Mankessim or even lodging at a hotel.

He estimates that the District Assembly will now have to spend a significant amount of money to renovate the residence and replace missing items such as cooking utensils and furniture — funds he believes could have been better invested in essential projects like schools, health centres, or roads within the district.

Mr. Duodu emphasised the urgent need for a maintenance culture among public officials and the general public.

He cautioned those occupying government bungalows to take proper care of public property to avoid unnecessary financial loss to the state.

“Going forward, I will ensure this building is properly maintained after renovation. We must all understand that government property is our collective responsibility,” he said.
