The anti-galamsey task force of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) seized and disabled four excavators used by illegal miners in Kyebi, Eastern Region.
This occurred during a strategic operation on Sunday, June 15, when the task force departed from Accra to clamp down on illegal mining activities in the area.
According to eyewitness reports, the offenders abandoned their equipment and fled the site as the task force approached.
The team, however, apprehended some illegal miners in the towns of Asikam and Potrase, within the greater Kyebi area, according to a report by 3news.com on June 22, 2025.
The seized excavators have been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further action.
Despite the miners escaping, the task force successfully removed the control boards from four excavators being operated by the defiant miners.
This operation is part of the government’s broader efforts to “protect the nation’s water bodies and forests from the harmful effects of illegal mining.”
The police in the region are collaborating with the task force to apprehend the illegal miners to ensure they face justice.
The operation, deemed largely successful, aligns with the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources’ commitment to combating galamsey, under the leadership of sector minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah.
