The Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Apaak, has received a delegation from Fujian Jiangxia University in China on behalf of the Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu.

In welcoming the delegation on behalf of the sector minister, Dr. Apaak expressed the Ministry’s pleasure that Fujian Jiangxia University has chosen Ghana as a partner.

“Ghana is stable, and we are happy that you have visited Ghana to have a partnership with Ghanaian universities,” Dr. Apaak, who is also the Member of Parliament for Builsa South, stated.

He noted that China has made significant progress in various sectors, and Ghana stands to benefit from these experiences. “We value this opportunity and believe the outcome will be mutually beneficial,” he added.

The President of Fujian Jiangxia University, Mr. Ling Qidan, led the university’s delegation. He was accompanied by Professor Zhang Yongpeng from the Institute of International and Area Studies, Professor Zheng, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, Secretary Jiang, and Dr. Samuel Kofi Darkwa. The visit took place at the Ministry of Education on Friday.

Mr. Ling Qidan noted that, in addition to its strength in Chinese language instruction, the university also excels in fields such as agriculture, engineering, and the humanities.

Ghanaian students stand to benefit from exchange programs between Ghanaian universities and Fujian Jiangxia University. The Chinese institution has also expressed its intention to offer scholarships to Ghanaian students, as well as implement student and faculty exchange programs as part of the partnership.

Other potential areas of collaboration include Public Foreign Language Education, Electronic Information Science and Technology, Engineering, Agriculture, Finance, and Economics, among others.

Fujian Jiangxia University currently maintains partnerships with several institutions in the United States, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Malaysia, and Finland.

Supporting Dr. Clement Apaak during the discussions were the Chief Director at the Ministry of Education, Madam Mamle Andrews; the Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Professor Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai; and the Director of Tertiary Education, Mr. Emmanuel Newman.
