The Member of Parliament for Garu, Thomas Anabah, has expressed deep frustration over the lack of tarred roads in his constituency, attributing the situation to decisions made by the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
During an interview on the Point Blank segment of Eyewitness News on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, Mr. Anabah claimed that Garu once had paved roads, but they were deliberately removed as part of an upgrade initiative that was never completed.
“We had tarred roads up until some point. Towards the end of 2023, the NPP government gave the contract to the NPP parliamentary candidate to scrap the tarred roads and replace them with asphalt. And they did nothing afterward,” he said.
The MP revealed that the failed project has left residents dealing with severe dust pollution, which he says is now causing serious health problems in the community.
“As we speak, there isn’t a meter of coal tar road in Garu, and the cases of pneumonia have increased by 45% because of the dust. This was caused by the previous government,” he added.
Mr. Anabah criticized what he described as political interference in infrastructure projects, warning that such actions have long-lasting negative impacts on the lives and health of constituents.
