George Boateng admits interest in Blackburn coaching job

Former Blackburn Rovers midfielder George Boateng has opened up on his desire to take the reins at the championship side, following the departure of John Eustace.

Eustace parted ways with Blackburn on February 13, 2025 after steering the club to safety in the 2023/24 season.

His departure has left a void at the Championship side, who are nine points adrift of the Premier League playoff spots.

Together with other reported names such as former Wolves manager Gary O’Neil, Braga’s Carlos Carvalhal, and ex-Young Boys coach Raphael Wicky, Boateng has been earmarked as one of the potential succesors to Eustace.

Familiar with Blackburn, Boateng has worked in the capacity of an assistant youth coach for the club’s U-13 in 2018, giving him the belief to land the job.

Reacting to the rumour on Soccer Africa, Boateng admitted his desire to manage the club.

“I have seen that my name has been mentioned for various clubs in the championship and, all I can say is that, I have shown interest in the Blackburn Rovers job and that I’m interested to be the head coach.”

The 49-year-old had a forgettable four-month stint in his last job as Coventry first team coach after he was relieved by the club together with manager Mark Robins.
