GES orders school heads to refund WASSCE practical fees to students

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed heads of second cycle institutions who have collected fees from students and parents for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) practical examinations to refund the monies without delay.

In a statement issued and signed by the Acting Deputy Director General of GES, Professor Smile Dzisi, the Service said the refunds must be properly documented, and official receipts issued to acknowledge repayment.

The directive comes on the back of the government’s release of full funding to cover the cost of the 2025 WASSCE practical examinations, including all required materials and logistical resources.

“School heads are to notify their respective Regional Directors once refunds have been completed,” the statement said.

Professor Dzisi emphasised that adherence to the directive would help ease the financial burden on students and their families, and more importantly, ensure that no student is denied the opportunity to participate in the examination due to the inability to pay.

“Failure to comply will be considered a serious breach of official instructions and may attract administrative sanctions,” the statement warned.
