Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has met with the Ghana Supporters Union (GSU) to address key issues affecting Ghanaian football.

The meeting, held at the GFA headquarters on February 19, 2025 , comes after the tragic death of Kotoko fan Nana Pooley, who was fatally stabbed during a Ghana Premier League match against Nsoatreman in Nsoatre.

The meeting focused on enhancing matchday security and safety measures, as hooliganism has become a significant concern in the Ghana Premier League.

Kurt condemned the incident and urged supporters to remain calm and united, promoting a positive football environment.

“In light of recent disturbances, I took the opportunity to express strong disapproval of the unacceptable and regrettable incident at Nsoatre, while urging everyone to maintain calm, exercise restraint, and promote a spirit of togetherness, which is vital for the growth of our football. I truly appreciate the dedication of the supporters, and I’m confident that through mutual respect and collective effort, we can take Ghanaian football to greater heights.” Kurt via Facebook

Discussions also centered on the crucial role of supporters in promoting domestic leagues and backing national teams. With the Black Stars preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar, Okraku emphasized the importance of unwavering support for domestic leagues and national teams.

“I underscored the importance of their unwavering support for the domestic leagues, including the Premier League, Division One, and Women’s football, as well as the national teams, particularly the Black Stars,” Okraku stated.

The GFA president also highlighted the need for collaboration, stating that Ghanaian football can reach greater heights through mutual respect and collective effort. “It is essential that we stand united, ensure peaceful behavior at games, and foster a positive environment that allows our teams to perform at their best,” he added.

The meeting marks a significant step toward enhancing safety and security measures in Ghanaian football, promoting a positive environment for players, officials, and fans alike.
