The Ghanaian government has unveiled its 2025 budget on Tuesday March 11, 2025 outlining significant allocations to various sectors and programs. The budget statement which was presented to the House of Parliament by the Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson on behalf of the President prioritizes education, health, infrastructure, and social protection, demonstrating John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to driving economic growth and improving the lives of its citizens.
Education Sector Receives Major Boost
The education sector has been allocated a substantial GH¢13.85 billion for the Big Push Programme, aimed at large-scale infrastructure and development projects. Additionally, GH¢499.8 million has been set aside for the No-Academic-Fee policy, benefiting first-year students in public tertiary institutions. Other notable allocations include GH¢292.4 million for free sanitary pads for female students in primary and secondary schools, GH¢3.5 billion for free secondary education, and GH¢564.6 million for comprehensive provision of free curricula-based textbooks.
Health Sector Gets Significant Funding
The health sector has been allocated GH¢9.93 billion for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), ensuring that citizens have access to quality healthcare. Nursing trainee allowances have also been allocated GH¢480 million, supporting the development of the healthcare workforce.
Infrastructure and Economic Development
The Ghana Road Fund has been allocated GH¢2.81 billion, while the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) has received GH¢7.51 billion. The Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda (AETA) has been allocated GH¢1.5 billion, aiming to drive economic growth through agriculture.
Social Protection and Empowerment
The government has also allocated funds for social protection and empowerment programs. The Women’s Development Bank has received GH¢51.3 million as a seed fund, while the National Apprenticeship Programme has been allocated GH¢300 million. The ‘Adwumawura’ Programme has received GH¢100 million, and the National Coders Programme has been allocated GH¢100 million.
Stressing on the theme for this year’s budget, “Resetting the Economy for the Ghana we Want”, the Member of Parliament representing the Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam Constituency in the Central Region said, and I quote,
“Right Honourable Speaker, on the authority of His Excellency the President, John Dramani Mahama and pursuant to Articles 179 and 180 of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana, and sections 21 and 23 of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921), I respectfully present to this august House the Budget Statement and Economic Policy of Government for the 2025 Financial Year.”

With significant allocations to education, health, infrastructure, and social protection, the budget sets the stage for economic growth, improved living standards, and a brighter future for Ghana’s citizens.
