Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe and former Minister of Education, says he is committed to leading Ghana to defeat poverty if elected flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and subsequently, the President of Ghana.
In a video shared on Wednesday, June 18, declaring his intention to contest the NPP flagbearership, Dr. Adutwum said he envisions a Ghana where every citizen, from farmer to entrepreneur, has a stake in national development.
“I believe in a Ghana where every child, regardless of background, receives quality education. I believe in a Ghana where all youth have access to opportunity and meaningful work. I believe in a Ghana where every citizen — from farmer to entrepreneur — has a stake in our shared progress. A Ghana where we will wage war against poverty and win,” he stated.
The former minister stressed that Ghana needs leadership grounded in vision, evidence, compassion and discipline — the kind of leadership, he noted, that begins with transforming minds.
“I’m ready to serve. I’m ready to lead. I’m ready to transform. We are standing at a critical juncture in our national journey. Ghana needs leadership that is not only visionary but also deeply grounded in evidence, compassion and discipline,” he said.
Dr. Adutwum added that in this era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, Ghana must ensure its citizens are equipped with skills to drive socioeconomic transformation — a task he says he will pursue with “humility, conviction, and a resolute heart.”
The lawmaker said his desire to lead Ghana stems from his commitment to serve — the same commitment that made him leave California, where he had established schools, to return home and contribute to national development.
The NPP has set January 31, 2026, as the date for its presidential primaries ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The date was agreed during a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Tuesday, June 17.
