The Ghana Police Service has intensified its efforts to combat illegal mining in the Western Region through targeted, intelligence-led operations.
In a recent crackdown, 23 suspects were arrested, and various mining equipment was disabled or retrieved.
During the operations, police disabled 64 changfan machines at the Obeng Mining Group site in Wassa Japa. In Wassa Dominase, officers responded to intelligence reports of illegal mining near the Goil and Energy Oil filling stations, disabling seven changfan machines and washing boards, and retrieving three water pumping machines and one pickaxe.
Additional operations were conducted in Asankrangwa, where police retrieved three water pumping machines and four motorbikes from an illegal mining site near the 1D1F building. The suspects are currently in custody, assisting with ongoing investigations.
