Ghana’s U15 boys were eliminated from the African Schools Championship in the semi-final stage after suffering a 1-0 defeat to defending champions Tanzania on Friday at the University of Ghana Stadium.
Team Ghana were unable to comeback after going behind in the first half – a result which ended Ghana’s ambition of hosting and winning the competition at the first time of asking.
For Tanzania, they’ve been handed the opportunity to reclaim the title they won in the last edition when they face Senegal in the final.
Senegal’s Young Lions showed resilience to outwit francophone neighbours Ivory Coast to seal a place in the final after a nervy shootout win following a goalless game.
Meanwhile, in the girls category, Ghana stands a chance of winning the competition after edging South Africa 3-2 on penalties.
The team will face Uganda in Saturday’s final for an opportunity to claim gold.
CAF President Dr. Motsepe is expected to grace the competition on the final day after attending a press conference earlier in the day.
Elsewhere, capacity training programmes for boys and girls have been taking place at the African Schools Football Championship, with tons of young people benefitting from the initiative.
On the penultimate day, April 25, various groups were handed certificates of participation by CAF in recognition of their respective works.
