This marks a triumphant return to European football for the Turkish side, who haven’t participated in continental competitions since the 2022/23 season when they reached the last 16 in the UEFA Conference League, only to be knocked out by Belgian giants Gent.

The lanky centre-back’s heroics were on full display as he rebound his penalty with nine minutes remaining, opening up a four-point gap over sixth-place Eyuspor.

With two games remaining for Istanbul Basaksehir and only one match left for Eyuspor, the latter’s hopes of overtaking Basaksehir have been mathematically dashed, even if they win their final game.

Opoku’s impressive form this season has undoubtedly contributed to his team’s success.

Jerome Opoku’s defensive prowess and attacking threat have played a crucial role in Istanbul Basaksehir’s successful campaign to return to Europe’s top club competitions.

Since joining the Turgish outfit from Portuguese side Arouca, he has scored three goals and delivered two assists in 31 games.

“Europe. Bravo Takım! Nice to score the winner,” Opoku excitedly posted after the game, reveling in the thrill of securing European qualification.

This achievement is a testament to his hard work and dedication, and fans are eagerly anticipating his contributions in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
