The La Liga African player MVP award is an award that recognizes the best African player in LALIGA EA SPORTS over the season.

This year’s edition features 20 nominees from 13 African nations, including standout performers from clubs across the league.

The winner will be decided through a combined vote: fans from Sub-Saharan Africa and a panel of 25 top African sports journalists.

The winner of this season’s Sporty LaLiga MVP will follow in the footsteps of past winners Iñaki Williams of Ghana (2024), Samuel Chukwueze of Nigeria (2023), and Yassine Bounou of Morocco (2022).

Ghanaian international Inaki Williams, who won the award last season, is looking to defend his title after his impressive performance with Athletic Bilbao this term.

Inaki Williams has been on fire this season, the Ghanian international has netted six goals and delivered six assists in La Liga this term, showcasing his remarkable skill.

He ranks second in goal-scoring for the Basque club this season, surpassed only by Unai Sancet’s 15 goals.

Notably, Inaki is the third-highest assist provider in La Liga, with Lamine Yamal (12) and Rhaphina (9) leading the pack.

His impressive performance has significantly contributed to Bilbao’s pursuit of a Champions League return, a feat they haven’t achieved since the 2014/15 season.

Currently, Bilbao sits in 4th position with 64 points, and with only three league games left, they have a strong chance of securing a spot in Europe’s top-tier tournament.

Given that five teams from La Liga will compete in the Champions League next season, Inaki’s team is well-positioned to make a comeback.

Inaki’s five goals and one assist were crucial in Bilbao’s memorable run to the Europa League semifinals, where they were ultimately eliminated by Manchester United.

Overall, his season has been outstanding, and his contributions will undoubtedly be vital in Bilbao’s final push for a Champions League spot.

Just like Inaki Williams, another Ghanaian international who shone brightly in La Liga this season is Abdul Mumin. Despite suffering a knee injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the season, the former Right to Dream Academy product’s remarkable performance in La Liga this season didn’t go unnoticed, earning him a nomination for the prestigious award.

Mumin has been a defensive stalwart and an attacking threat for the Madrid-based club Rayo Vallecano. The defender has scored two league goals and provided one assist in 24 league matches, helping the club achieve six clean sheets. He has made 120 clearances, hasn’t given away a penalty, and has made 37 tackles and 23 interceptions, winning 83 ground duels out of 149 attempted.

The 24-year-old’s outstanding displays have been crucial in Rayo Vallecano’s strong start to the season. Since joining Rayo Vallecano in 2022 from Vitória Guimarães, Mumin has solidified his position as a key figure in the team’s defense. His consistency, aerial prowess, and game-reading abilities have made him a fan favorite.

His impressive performances earned him the Rayo Player of the Month award, and his audacious strike against Osasuna won the La Liga Goal of the Month in September. Mumin’s impressive displays have been instrumental in the Madrid club’s bid to return to European football for the first time since 2000/2001.

The Ghanaian dou will face a though competition from elite African talents such as reigning champion and Ghanaian international Iñaki Williams, whose goals and pace at the head of the Athletic Club forward line have placed the Basque side in pole position to qualify for next season’s UEFS Champions League; Atletico de Madrid’s Mozambican full-back Reinildo Mandava, a crucial figure in what is statistically the second-tightest defensive unit in LaLiga; Cameroon international and CA Osasuna defensive rock Flavien Enzo Boyomo, who has played more minutes in Spain’s top division this season than any other African player; and Villarreal CF’s trio of Pape Gueye (Senegal), Nicolas Pepe (Ivory Coast) and Logan Costa (Cape Verde) who are guiding the Yellow Submarine’s push for Europe.

Voting is open until May 14, and the winner will be announced on Africa Day, May 25, coinciding with the final matchday of the season. Will Iñaki Williams defend his title, or will Abdul Mumin or another player take home the award? The football world is eagerly waiting to see.
