The New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its leadership once loved has now faced backlash by Nana Addo-Dr. Bawumia’s leadership. The NPP party has made the party loose its credibility and competence.
The 2028 election will not be a routine political contest—it will be a reckoning. After years of economic hardship, corruption scandals, and internal party dysfunction, Ghanaians face a defining choice: continue with a party that has failed to deliver, or embrace leadership rooted in integrity, humility and development. Let me take you to the mind of Ghanaians not really the NPP/NDC voters.
Economic Mismanagement: The Bawumia Paradox. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, once hailed as an economic genius, has presided over one of Ghana’s worst financial crises. Despite his academic credentials, his tenure as head of the Economic Management Team saw:
Cedi depreciation to historic lows (GH₵17.20 per dollar as of late 2024) Inflation surging past 50% IMF bailouts and debt restructuring, contradicting his earlier critiques of borrowing Failed flagship projects like 1D1F and Gold-for-Oil, which remain largely symbolic His pivot to digitization—while notable—has not translated into economic relief for ordinary Ghanaians. Dr. Bawumia, in the mind of Ghanaians is a pathological liar. He blames every challenge.
Corruption and Scandal: The NPP’s Tarnished Legacy. The NPP’s record is riddled with high-profile corruption cases:
Ken Ofori-Atta, declared a fugitive by Ghana’s Special Prosecutor for alleged misuse of public funds, including $58M for the stalled National Cathedral. Chairman Wontumi, implicated in illegal mining and road contract controversies. Over 100 documented scandals under Akufo-Addo and Bawumia’s administration. Systemic abuse of public funds. There were serious systemic abuse of public funds and a disregard for public accountability.
Legacy of Arrogance vs. Decency. While NPP leaders have been accused of elitism and disrespect—such as Kennedy Agyapong’s insult toward teachers and grassroots members—John Mahama has consistently shown restraint and respect, even toward controversial figures like Agradaa. His leadership style resonates with ordinary Ghanaians who seek dignity, not disdain.
Internal Criticism: Voices from Within. Even party stalwarts have spoken out and these voices reflect a party in crisis—fractured, disillusioned and disconnected from its base.
Kennedy Agyapong called NPP members “fools” for internal sabotage. He now wants the “NPP fools” to vote for him? Former President Kufuor warned that the NPP has lost its moral compass, deceiving voters with false promises. Kwasi Kwarteng, a party activist, criticized early flagbearer campaigning and warned of favoritism and division.
The Northern Question: Marginalization and Manipulation. Bawumia’s sidelining will spark concerns that the NPP may never truly embrace a northern leader. His treatment suggests a deeper issue of regional bias and political tokenism, reinforcing the perception that the party prioritizes power over inclusivity. Party of Akans.
Why 2028 Must Be a Turning Point. Re-electing the NPP without demanding reform would signal national complacency toward corruption, economic failure, and disrespect for citizens. Ghana deserves:
Competence over charisma Truth over propaganda Development over party loyalty
John Mahama and the NDC offer a path forward, one rooted in humility, infrastructure, and inclusive governance. The choice in 2028 is clear: reclaim Ghana’s dignity or risk decades of stagnation.
Dr. Bawumia in 2024, never talked about the economy. He shfted his incompetence on economy to another fake distraction called digitization. Despite his credentials, Bawumia’s economic principles proved ineffective, leaving Ghanaians disillusioned and financially strained.
Notable scandals reported under the Akufo-Addo and Bawumia administration, based on publicly available sources:

Ghans first means leaders must lead to have respect and value for ordinary Ghanaian above party color.
