The Ghana Institute of Procurement and Supply (GIPS) has extended warm congratulations to its founding chairman and fellow of the institute, Mr. Basil Ahiable, on his appointment as the board chairman of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA).

According to the institute, Mr. Ahiable’s appointment to the state procurement regulatory body signals a new era of professionalism, integrity, and expert leadership in the country’s public procurement landscape.

In its congratulatory message, GIPS expressed optimism in the competence of the new PPA board chairman to make tangible contribution to national development with prudent supervision and strict adherence to value-based procurement, especially in the public sector.

“We [GIPS] believe in the competence, and trust in the capabilities of Mr. Basil Ahiable in delivering impactful leadership that will ensure efficient public spending, enhance the integrity of procurement processes and facilitate national development,” the institute said in a statement signed by its president, Dr. Simon Annan.

As the foremost professional body representing procurement and supply chain management professionals in Ghana, GIPS further indicated that the appointment marks a pivotal moment for both the PPA and the broader procurement environment.

Mr. Basil Ahiable’s tenure as the board chairman of the PPA comes at a critical time as the nation grapples with fiscal constraints, with calls for improved public sector efficiency and growing demand for value-for-money in government procurements.

“We implore the new PPA leadership to impact the economy with their expert knowledge of procurement procedures in line with the ethics of the profession, reinforce ethical standards and to enhance public confidence in the procurement process,” the statement added.
