The government, through the Ministry of the Interior, has declared Friday, July 4, 2025, a public holiday.

A statement issued by the Minister of the Interior, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, indicated that the public holiday is being observed on Friday to mark the celebration of Republic Day, which falls on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.

“The general public is hereby informed that Tuesday, 1st July 2025, is Republic Day.

“However, His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, by Executive Instrument (EI), in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, 2021 (Act 601), has declared Friday, 4th July 2025, as a Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country,” the statement issued by the minister read.

The announcement by the ministry comes after the Parliament approved the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which reinstates July 1 as Republic Day and a public holiday.

The bill, which is yet to be assented to by President John Dramani Mahama, also made major adjustments to Ghana’s official holiday schedule, including moving all midweek holidays that fall on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays to Fridays.
