The government of Ghana has released GH¢267.67 million to health facilities across the country to settle National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) claims.

This latest release, which covers claims vetted and approved up to April 2025, brings the total amount disbursed so far to GH¢1.5 billion.

In a statement issued by the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) on Tuesday, July 8, the authority explained that public health facilities received GH¢120,700,932.62, representing 45 percent of the total amount.

It added that private health facilities were paid GH¢100,210,906.44, accounting for 37 percent, while mission health facilities received GH¢46,761,808.96, which constitutes 17 percent of the total funds.

“The NHIA’s prompt payments regime, introduced earlier this year in line with the government’s commitment to ensuring that healthcare providers are resourced, has been instrumental in maintaining a debt-free status for 2025, guaranteeing timely reimbursement to healthcare providers nationwide,” the statement noted.

It added that the payments fulfil the NHIA’s mandate as the payer for healthcare services covered under the NHIS Benefit Package.

The statement, signed by Dr Victor Asare-Bampoe, Chief Executive Officer of the NHIA, noted that the package covers over 95 percent of disease conditions and includes more than 550 formulations on the NHIS medicines list.
