The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced a major step forward in Ghana’s oil and gas sector with the submission of the Declaration of Commerciality for the Eban-Akoma discoveries in the Cape Three Points Block 4.
The joint venture partners, Eni Ghana Exploration & Production Ltd, Vitol Upstream Tano Ltd, Woodfield’s Upstream Ghana Ltd, and GNPC Exploration & Production Company Ltd, in collaboration with the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, submitted the declaration to the minister on Thursday in Accra.
This follows the successful appraisal of the Eban-1X and Akoma-1X wells, which confirmed commercially viable oil, gas, and condensate reserves. The findings pave the way for new domestic energy projects, supporting Ghana’s industrialization and energy security goals.
The sector minister, Mr John Abdulai Jinapor, praised the development, describing it as a boost for the country’s oil and gas sector.
“This achievement reflects the potential of our offshore resources to drive economic growth and strengthen our energy sector,” he said.
He also commended the joint venture partners and GNPC for their work on the project.
According to the minister, the next phase will involve preparing a Plan of Development to maximize resource recovery and ensure local participation in line with national policies.
“The Ministry, alongside the Petroleum Commission and GNPC, will oversee the project to align it with Ghana’s long-term energy strategy,” he added.
This milestone reinforces the government’s efforts to build a transparent and sustainable energy sector that benefits Ghanaians.
