President John Dramani Mahama has disclosed that the government will soon release funds to settle arrears owed to contractors, enabling them to return to project sites and continue work on key national infrastructure.
The announcement was made during a meeting with members of the Council of State at the Presidency in Accra, according to a statement issued by the Presidency.
President Mahama explained that the Ministry of Finance has earmarked dedicated resources to cover a significant portion of outstanding debts owed to contractors across the country.
“I’m sure that some of the contractors who have been working on your projects will be paid so that they can go back on site and continue their work,” he announced.
He emphasised that the move is part of a larger effort to fast-track stalled projects and reinforce the administration’s broader economic recovery agenda.
President Mahama noted that the Finance Minister is treating the payments as a priority, recognising the critical role of infrastructure in driving economic growth and improving livelihoods.
The President indicated that more information on the disbursements will be outlined in the mid-year budget review, which is expected to provide a comprehensive overview of Ghana’s economic performance for the first half of 2025.
He also gave an assurance that the government would re-engage the Council of State following the mid-year budget presentation to review the progress made so far and evaluate policy directions for the remainder of the year.
The meeting was attended by Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang and Mr. Edward Korbly Doe Adjaho, Chairman of the Council of State.
