GPL title race not over yet – Kotoko coach Prosper Ogum optimistic

Despite a string of poor results, Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Nartey Ogum remains confident that his side is still in the hunt for the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League title.

The Porcupine Warriors suffered a 2-0 defeat to Nations FC on Matchday 28, extending their winless run to three games. That result leaves Kotoko six points behind league leaders Bibiani Gold Stars with just six games to go.

Speaking after the game, Ogum refused to throw in the towel, insisting the title race is far from over.

“Conceding five goals in our last two games is uncharacteristic of us,” he admitted. “But we have six more matches to play. It’s not over. The players need to believe. If they don’t pick themselves up and believe they can do it, we’ll continue to see these setbacks. We’ve experienced this before in the first round. Now, we need to regroup, analyze things technically and tactically, and address the gaps.”

Kotoko’s latest defeat came at the hands of a spirited Nations FC side, who completed a season double over the Reds. Sulemana Nafiu opened the scoring with a superb curling effort just 15 minutes in, before turning provider to set up Emmanuel Annor for a second just before halftime.

Meanwhile, Bibiani Gold Stars edged Medeama 1-0 to maintain their place at the top with 53 points. Hearts of Oak were also held to a goalless draw by Karela United, further shaking up the title race.
