The Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs has inducted the Paramount Chief of the Ngleshie Alata Traditional Area, Oblempong Dr. Wetse Kojo II, as a member of the House.

A letter issued and signed by the Registrar of the House, Enoch Addo, confirmed the development, stating that, by law, the chief now also serves as the President of the Ngleshie Alata Traditional Council.

The letter was copied to the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the Ministry of the Interior, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, the Ga West Municipal Assembly, the Office of the Administrator of Stool Lands, and the Lands Commission.

Oblempong Dr. Wetse Kojo II is known in private life as Prince Asharku Bruce Quaye

The Chief of Staff of the Ngleshie Alata Traditional Council, Daniel Nii Ardey Tagoe, who confirmed this, welcomed the induction, describing it as a call for peace and unity within the traditional area.

In an interview with the Ghanaian Times over the weekend, he urged all stakeholders to support the paramount chief in restoring the prominence of the Ngleshie Alata Stool.

“I appeal to all, especially the seven divisional quarters of the James Town Paramount Stool, Adanse, Ajumanko, Trom, Adadentan, Anumansa, Plerno, and Afienaa as well as over 100 villages and chiefs under the traditional area, to come together and support the paramount chief,” he said.

He stressed the need to move beyond past disputes that had hindered development, calling for a united front.

“Litigation will not help anyone because it hampers development. We should rather think about the larger picture, which is the paramount stool. It is indeed an era of a new dawn, and we must all join forces to reclaim the past glory of the James Town Paramount Stool,” he stressed.

He reiterated that the induction of Oblempong Dr. Wetse Kojo II into the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs solidifies his authority within the traditional hierarchy, setting the stage for renewed leadership and progress in the area.

The Ngleshie Alata Traditional Area, with James Town as its historical and administrative centre, is one of the oldest and most significant Ga traditional states in the Greater Accra Region.

The area traces its origins to the 17th century, when the Ngleshie Alata people, largely of Ga-Dangme descent, settled along the coast. James Town, formerly a key British colonial trading post, remains a cultural and historical landmark, known for its rich heritage, including the annual Homowo Festival and the James Fort, which played a role in the transatlantic slave trade.

Over the years, however, chieftaincy disputes and land conflicts have hindered the full development of the area.

The induction of Oblempong Dr. Wetse Kojo II is expected to bring much-needed stability, fostering unity among the various factions while paving the way for renewed development initiatives.
