I had been a distant supporter of both Dr Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong, campaigning for their election success at various times. I had even wished to see both unite to ensure victory for NPP at election 2024, regardless of the enormity of the well-grounded myths and external shocks militating against the NPP.
The mythical 8-yearly cyclical rotation of power between NPP and NDC; the victory for presidential candidate whose birthday, as in day of week, falls on the election day, the adverse effect of both Covid-19 pandemic and the Russian-Ukraine war, weighed lopsidedly against NPP as a party, and her candidates. The stated elements coupled with some deliberate actions and inactions by the members of the NPP, especially her top brass, led to her disastrously shameful defeat at election 2024.
While licking their wounds to get them healed, gather strength and courage to face election 2028 with hope, Kennedy Agyapong by his fiery temperament, unreasonably uncontrollable, has been worsening NPP’s chances of ever winning election 2028.
Acting on the spur of the moment to say things or take actions not thought through, thus, knee-jerk reactions, is not a good sign for any politician nurturing the hope of ever becoming the president of Ghana if the chance knocks on their door. However, this is the character trait of Kennedy Agyapong that I had supported and hoped he became the president of Ghana where Dr Bawumia failing.
For persistently hastily reacting to issues without thinking them through, and abusively of course, Kennedy is making himself difficult for many NPP members and sympathisers to support in his quest to lead NPP as her future presidential candidate.
If he thinks his vituperative attacks on NPP members not sharing his views can take him to the sugar candy mountain, I tell him frankly that he is a big-time joker. No, his insults will rather pull him back and down the drain!
I am his supporter owing to his visions for Ghana and how to handle the NPP foot soldiers and the regions and constituencies continuously massively voting NPP, something that all past NPP leaders had failed to realise. However, he is making himself not only difficult for me to support but fast making himself unelectable.
He has clearly become an albatross hanging loosely around the neck of NPP, pulling her down the slippery slope hence clearly become a liability rather than an asset to NPP,
Yes, it takes one to be wise to be rich, however, this is not a fact always etched in stone. A poor man who is a critical thinker can be wiser than a rich person in certain occasions.
Kennedy should get off his high horse to permit his supporters to give him the needed support and be able to defend. Now that he is deeply infatuated with responding to issues instantly without thinking them through but loaded with insults and show of, it may be difficult for some people to give him their fullest support.
His current supporters may be doing him a great disservice if they fail to point out his mistakes to him in attempts to correct him, make him a better electable presidential candidate, noting that “it does not belong to he who is leading to redirect their steps”.
As at writing, I see Kennedy as a liability but not an asset to NPP. This is shameful though.
