The Ministry of Health has confirmed that salaries for 321 Pharmacist House Officers who completed their housemanship in 2024 have been fully processed and paid, signaling a major breakthrough in addressing financial bottlenecks in the health sector.
In a statement signed by Deputy Director and Spokesperson Tony Goodman, the Ministry described the move as part of broader efforts to meet long-standing commitments to healthcare professionals. However, the statement also acknowledged the ongoing grievances of the 2024 batch of Rotation Nurses and Allied Health Interns, who have yet to be paid despite completing their national service in May 2025.
“The delay stems from the inability of the previous government to secure the necessary financial clearance before the commencement of their rotations,” the statement clarified.
The Ministry explained that the interns’ current predicament is rooted in administrative inaction by the former administration, which failed to obtain the financial clearance required to activate salary payments before the start of their assignments.
To resolve the situation, the Health Ministry says it is working closely with other government agencies to expedite the clearance process and release funds to settle all outstanding obligations.
“This effort reflects the Ministry’s broader commitment to resolving salary arrears across all health worker categories and ensuring that every qualified professional is supported in delivering essential healthcare services to Ghanaians,” the statement noted.
Reassuring the affected interns, the Ministry stressed that their concerns are receiving urgent attention. It also hinted at structural reforms aimed at eliminating systemic delays in health sector payrolls going forward.
“This is not just about addressing arrears—it’s about fixing the system for good,” an official at the Ministry told reporters off the record.
The Ministry’s statement has brought a measure of relief to some, but pressure continues to mount from interns and unions demanding swift and permanent solutions.
