Vice Chair of the Special Committee probing the vetting chaos, Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi has disclosed the reason why he recused himself from the hearing of the Committee probing the vetting chaos on Wednesday, February 5, 2025.

The Asante Akim Central MP who was part of the members questioning witnesses who appeared before the Committee recused himself in the course of the hearing after receiving a directive from the leader of the Minority Caucus, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

Explaining his reason for recusing himself and why the hearing was suspended, he noted that the Committee’s hearing was supposed to be in-camera and not to the full glare of the public.

According to him, he was informed by the leadership of the Minority caucus not to be part of such a public hearing.

“I was told not to be part of what we were doing because, we were not supposed to go public with a committee work.

“I think amongst other things but that is what I know. I got a text message from my leadership and I went to listened to my leadership, I came back to inform the Chair that officially I have to be out because of one or two reasons,” he said in an interview on JoyNews, Wednesday, February 5, 2025.

Seven Majority Members of Parliament including the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga and the Clerk to the Appointments Committee appeared as witnesses before the Committee at the first hearing on the chaos on Wednesday.

The Committee is yet to announce another date to continue hearing on the vetting chaos as its meeting today, Wednesday, February 5 was suspended indefinitely.

Established by Speaker Alban Bagbin, the committee aims to examine the events surrounding the chaos on January 30, which resulted in a clash between the Minority and Majority over the vetting timing and led to destruction of equipment.

The committee, chaired by Ho West MP Emmanuel Bedzrah, includes members Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi, Gizella Akushika Tetteh-Agbotui, Abena Osei Asare, Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Vincent Oppong Asamoah, and Bede Anwataazuma Ziedeng. It has been given a 10-day deadline to report its findings and recommendations.

The committee had created a WhatsApp platform to solicit information from the public.
