The stage is set for another thrilling showdown as Hearts of Oak welcome arch-rivals Asante Kotoko to the Accra Sports Stadium for the highly-anticipated Super Clash on Sunday afternoon.
While the fixture may not carry title-deciding implications this season, it remains a marquee event on the local football calendar.
Ongoing renovation works have capped attendance at 25,000, but the atmosphere is expected to be electric as fans flock to witness another chapter in the battle between the nation’s two most successful clubs.
Asante Kotoko come into the clash in better form, having defeated Aduana Stars 2-1 in their previous outing and remaining unbeaten in their last three games. Coach Karim Zito, appointed mid-season, has a solid record against Hearts of Oak beating them 1-0 earlier this season with Dreams FC and remains undefeated in six encounters against the Phobians.
Hearts of Oak, on the other hand, were awarded three points last weekend after Nsoatreman’s withdrawal, giving them a break but little momentum. Coach Aboubakar Ouattara remains under pressure, and failure to secure a result against Kotoko could put his future at the club in doubt. Hearts sit 7th on the table with 45 points five behind 4th-placed Kotoko, who have 50 points from 29 matches.
In recent meetings, Kotoko have had the edge winning four of the last six encounters since April 2022, with one win for Hearts and a draw. The Porcupines have outscored the Phobians 8-4 across those games, including a 1-0 victory in December 2024.
This season, Kotoko have netted 29 goals to Hearts’ 25, while both sides boast strong defensive records, conceding 21 and 17 goals respectively.
Though not a title decider, Sunday’s clash is loaded with pride, bragging rights, and job implications making it a must-watch for Ghana Premier League fans.
