Hearts of Oak have struggled since my departure – Mohammed Polo

Ghanaian football icon and former Hearts of Oak coach, Mohammed Polo, has delivered a sharp critique of the club’s recent coaching decisions following the reassignment of Aboubakar Ouattara as Special Advisor to the Board.

Speaking in an interview with Connect 97.1FM, Polo—who led the Phobians during the 2013/14 Ghana Premier League season—claimed the club’s decline began after his exit, pointing to ongoing challenges with form and consistency.

“Hearts of Oak have been struggling since I left as head coach. The club has been flirting with relegation in recent years,” Polo said. “Ouattara wasn’t able to develop or elevate the performance of the players.”

Ouattara’s removal from the dugout was announced on Tuesday, with the club confirming his new advisory role. The decision has sparked mixed reactions among fans and stakeholders.

Hearts of Oak finished fourth in the 2024/25 season and have since appointed former Asante Kotoko boss Mas-Ud Didi Dramani as head coach, officially closing the chapter on Ouattara’s tenure.
