Former Second Lady Samira Bawumia has described her husband, former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, as a humble, thoughtful, and considerate politician — but not a pushover.

According to her, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who was the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate in the 2024 elections, has a peaceful nature that does not allow him to react to issues vociferously or with anger. However, that should not be mistaken for cowardice or weakness.

Speaking to a group of youth in a video shared on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Samira Bawumia stated that Dr Bawumia has always been meticulous and measured, and he deeply reflects on issues before acting.

“He is a very strong person, but he is intellectual, so his actions are well thought through. That is who he is. He won’t change his personality. He is a humble person, but that does not mean he can be taken advantage of. People want to define him in a certain way, but leadership is about vision. We are practicing democracy in Ghana. A president is not elected to fight — the country needs a visionary leader who will bring good policies and programmes to improve the lives of Ghanaians.

A humble leader is one who can come to you for advice. He is the kind of person who, when concerns are presented to him, will listen and act on them. That is the quality we need, and Dr. Bawumia embodies that. He is humble, caring, and concerned about the marginalized in society. That is who he is. It doesn’t mean he is not strong. His strength lies in his thoughts, in his resolve, in his leadership, in his hard work, and in his vision.”

Dr Bawumia is poised to contest the party’s presidential primary again and lead the New Patriotic Party in its bid to wrest power from the governing National Democratic Congress in 2028.
