The Korea Foundation for International Health (KOFIH) has made a significant contribution to Ghana’s healthcare system by handing over a model health center to the Volta Regional Health Directorate.

The new biomedical training centre has been established to serve the community by providing in-service training for engineers in the health sector.

The facility will also function as a workshop space, equipping professionals with the necessary skills to maintain and improve medical equipment.

This facility, located in the Abutia community of the Ho West District, is expected to serve 16 other communities in its catchment area.

The formal handing-over ceremony was attended by high-profile dignitaries, including the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh; the Volta Regional Minister; the Korean Ambassador to Ghana; and the Acting Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea.

In his keynote address, the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, emphasized the need for a multi-sectoral approach to advancing healthcare delivery in Ghana.

He stressed that achieving high-quality universal health coverage requires collective participation and collaboration across government agencies, sectors, and communities.

“The Republic of South Korea has remained a strong ally to Ghana, providing funding, technical assistance, and grant support to strengthen our health system.

“This model health centre stands as a testament to our shared commitment to ensuring quality healthcare for all,” Akandoh stated.

KOFIH has been active in Ghana since 2013, implementing various projects in primary healthcare, biomedical engineering, health insurance, and healthcare personnel training.

This new health center stands as a testament to KOFIH’s commitment to improving healthcare in Ghana and commemorates its 10-year presence in the country.
