A member of the Ashanti Regional Communications Team of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Issah Yusif Gaani, has expressed frustration over what he describes as neglect by the party following its return to power after defeating the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 general elections.

Speaking in an interview on Oyerepa TV on June 12, 2025, Gaani questioned the logic of expecting unpaid and unemployed party communicators to defend government policies, especially when they themselves have not benefited from the interventions being promoted.

“For me, I have said it and I won’t hide it, the sacrifices we’ve made for this party are enormous. We pray and hope the leadership will take notice,” he said.

Gaani noted that he once held a position during the previous NDC administration, which prevented him from securing employment under the NPP government. Now, even with his party back in power, he remains unemployed.

“I read a news story yesterday that said those who are going to work on the poultry initiative (Nkok) nketen nketen) have already been trained. So how do you expect me to come and sit here to talk about such policies?” he asked.

“As a data sharer, when someone tells you that Adwuma Wura has created 2,000 jobs, how do you, an unemployed and hungry communicator, sit and defend that? It doesn’t add up.”

Gaani stressed that including party communicators in job opportunities and key initiatives would give them a sense of ownership and motivation to speak passionately about the government’s programmes.

“If you involve your communicators, they will have the passion to defend the government. When you are part of something, it becomes intrinsic, you can defend it wholeheartedly without hesitation,” he added.
