In a heartwarming display of dedication and humanity, Dr. Prosper Moh, a distinguished orthopedic surgeon from the St. John of God Hospital in Duayaw Nkwanta, has once again returned to his roots in Nandom to offer orthopedic care, a self-initiated mission he has faithfully pursued for over two decades.
During his one-month voluntary service at St. Theresa’s Hospital, Dr. Moh attended to nearly 800 outpatients, performing 70 major surgeries and 40 minor procedures.
Patients traveled from far and wide including the Oti, Northern, Savannah, Upper East Regions and even neighboring Burkina Faso to benefit from his expertise.
Ranging in age from 1 to 75, the patients received not only surgical care but also medical guidance.
Dr. Moh advised the public to adopt regular exercise for a healthy lifestyle and cautioned against the misuse of painkillers for minor pains.
“Orthopedics is my hobby. I’m not driven by money, but by the joy I see on the faces of those I help,” he stated. “Many people here trust bonesetters, but when their pain persists, they turn to us. I’m glad I can make a difference, even with limited materials.”
Dr. Moh was full of praise for the theatre nurses who supported him throughout the outreach. “There are days we operate on as many as eight patients, and these nurses stay with me till the very last case. They are resilient, committed, and excellent at what they do. I couldn’t have done this without them,” he said.
To recognize his extraordinary service, the hospital presented him with a plaque of appreciation. Dr. Sebastian Yidana Ninimiya, the Medical Superintendent, commended Dr. Moh for his unwavering commitment.
“He has become a household name in Nandom and at St. Theresa’s. For more than 20 years, he has never taken a pesewa for his services. He responds whenever we call, and we are deeply grateful,” Dr. Yidana said.
Dr. Prosper Moh’s annual homecoming is more than just a medical outreach. It is a testimony of one man’s unwavering passion to heal, inspire, and serve and not for reward, but for love of community.
