An ATM card left at a crime scene in East Legon has led to the arrest of two male suspects by the Ghana Police Service in connection with the murder of a Lebanese national.
The two suspects are said to have left behind some items, including a Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) ATM card bearing the name of one of the arrested suspects, while fleeing the scene of the crime, according to a police statement released on July 3, 2025.
Providing details of the operation and the murder, the police indicated that the deceased, a 58-year-old Lebanese national, was murdered in cold blood at his residence in East Legon, Accra, on June 20, 2025.
“The Ghana Police Service has arrested two (2) suspects in connection with the murder of a Lebanese national, which occurred on Friday, 20th June 2025, at the victim’s residence at East Legon, Accra.
“The deceased, identified as Mr. Omar Mikati, aged 58, was found dead in a pool of blood. A team from the Crime Scene Management Unit (CSMU) at the Police Headquarters was promptly dispatched to collect relevant forensic evidence to support the investigation,” the police statement reported.
Police further stated that through their investigations, they discovered that the suspects, identified as Paul Twumasi Ankrah, aged 39, and Asiedu Henning, aged 32, an accomplice, murdered the deceased and fled with his Samsung mobile phone.
“Preliminary investigations suggest that the perpetrator(s) fled the scene with the deceased’s Samsung mobile phone, leaving behind other items, including two iPhones and a GCB ATM card bearing the name Paul Twumasi Ankrah. The body of the deceased was conveyed to the morgue for preservation and autopsy,” the statement added.
An intelligence-led police operation was conducted, leading to the arrest of Paul Ankrah, who, during investigations, implicated Asiedu Henning.
“Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of suspect Paul Twumasi Ankrah at Samsam Medie, who implicated his accomplice, one Asiedu Henning, alias Nana Kofi Anum. On 2nd July 2025, suspect Asiedu Henning was arrested in an intelligence-led operation at his hideout in Kutunse,” it indicated.
It went on to say, “He led police to a location where the CSMU team processed the scene and retrieved a knife that had been disposed of by the suspects. The exhibit knife is being processed for forensic analysis.”
Meanwhile, the suspects have been remanded into police custody by a presiding judge after they were arraigned before the Adabraka District Court 1. They are scheduled to reappear in court on July 8, 2025.
