The Huasa Lafa Zongo community held its second edition of a major cleanup exercise on February 22, 2025, under the theme “Cleaning the Community with Love & Unity.”

The initiative saw members of the community coming together to clean their surroundings, emphasizing the importance of hygiene and environmental preservation.

As part of the exercise, various gutters within the Weija-Gbawe constituency and its assemblies were desilted, and the environment was thoroughly cleaned.

The event aimed to improve sanitation and reduce the spread of diseases caused by poor hygiene.

Abubakakar Sekik, the Hausa Lafa Zongo Youth Chief, highlighted the significance of the initiative, stating, “We have taken it upon ourselves to clean the environment to eradicate certain diseases and also help the government cut down costs on purchasing medicine for preventable illnesses.”

He further urged residents to actively participate in such cleanup activities to support the government’s efforts in maintaining a clean and healthy environment.

“I advise people to take part in these cleanup exercises because the government cannot do it all,” he said.

Sekik also expressed concern over the recent cholera outbreak, emphasizing that such diseases are often caused by filth. “We are in this together to clean the community and prevent the spread of illnesses,” he added.

Additionally, he advised commercial drivers and their mates to prioritize cleanliness and refrain from disposing of waste improperly.

“We urge drivers and their assistants to ensure cleanliness and, most importantly, to stop throwing waste into the environment,” he stated.
