I apologise on behalf of NPP; we got quite a few things wrong — Bawumia to Ghanaians

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has apologised to Ghanaians on behalf of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for mistakes and inactions during its immediate past government.

The 2024 flagbearer admitted that although the party delivered on several aspects of the economy, it failed in some key areas, which contributed to economic hardships.

Speaking to NPP UK members at the party’s Annual General Meeting in London, Dr. Bawumia assured that if given another chance, the party would make amends for the benefit of Ghanaians.

“The NPP did a lot of work, there’s no doubt about that, but we did not get everything right. We got quite a few things wrong, and I think that, on my own behalf and on behalf of the party, I apologise to all of you for us not getting the figures right,” he said.

“I believe that, by the grace of God, if we are given another opportunity, we will get many things right, because we have learnt the lessons that will guide us forward,” he added.

The NPP, which went into the 2024 general elections with the aim of securing a third consecutive term under its ‘Breaking the 8’ agenda, lost the presidential race to the NDC by a margin of about 1.7 million votes.

Its representation in Parliament, which previously stood at 137, dropped to about 88 after the elections, leaving the rest to the NDC and independent candidates.

Meanwhile, Dr. Bawumia had earlier acknowledged during the party’s post-election thank-you tour that unpopular decisions, arrogance of power, and other missteps contributed to the NPP’s defeat.
