‘I took my suspension in good faith’ — Dafeamekpor

Member of Parliament for South Dayi and Majority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, says his suspension following the chaos during vetting on Thursday, January 30, was justified.

Dafeamekpor, along with three other NPP MPs, was suspended for two weeks after the incident, which led to the destruction of tables and microphones in the committee room.

According to the South Dayi MP, he has accepted responsibility for his actions and taken the suspension— which has since been lifted by Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin— in good faith.

“I take responsibility, so when my punishment came, I took it in good faith,” Dafeamekpor said on Monday, February 10, during his appearance before the special committee investigating the matter.

The Majority Chief Whip further explained that when such incidents occur, leadership must be held accountable.

“Others disagreed that, essentially, if punishment were to be meted out, it ought not to be me,” he stated. “Once they decided to disrupt, raise tables, raise chairs, what can I do? What could I have done? Just to suffer for the punishment.”

“Consensus-building failed that night. If my counterparts had not insisted on their modus operandi for that day, we wouldn’t have experienced that,” he added.

Meanwhile, Ofoase Ayirebi MP and former Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, says the chaos started after the Majority Chief Whip threatened to beat the Minority NPP.
