A former Member of Parliament for Subin Constituency, Eugene Boakye Antwi, has shared his candid views regarding President John Dramani Mahama and his administration.

In an interview on Channel One TV’s “Face to Face” show on July 1, 2025, Antwi explicitly stated that he does not wish to see President Mahama succeed in office.

He stressed that his primary hope is for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to reclaim power in the 2028 general elections.

While clarifying that he does not want Ghana as a nation to fail, Antwi explained his stance that he nonetheless hopes President Mahama’s government is unsuccessful.

According to him, he remains unconvinced that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) possesses the competence to effectively deliver on its mandate to the people of Ghana.

“I want him [Mahama] to fail, I want my party to win the 2028 elections. I don’t want him to fail, as in fail but I know that NDC cannot do much in terms of what they promised,” he stated.

Boakye Antwi reaffirmed that his desire for the NDC’s underperformance stems from his deep skepticism about the party’s ability to manage the economy effectively.

“I don’t want Mahama to succeed as in succeeding, because I want my party [NPP] to win… In terms of the actual management of the economy, I don’t think the NDC has what it takes,” he added.

While reflecting on his own time in government, Boakye Antwi acknowledged that internal challenges and political dynamics often pose obstacles to performance.

He suggested that the incumbent NDC administration could encounter similar issues.

“I have been in government, and sometimes, as a president, your appointees will make sure that you fail. The kind of things I saw when we were in government are the same Ghanaians in the NDC, so it will be transferred across there,” he said.
